Alan "Greenie" Edward Greenfield, 88, passed away yesterday, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, warmth, and a life lived with unmistakable joy. Born and raised in the Philadelphia area, Greenie spent most of his life surrounded by the people and places he loved before retiring to Hilton Head, where he embraced golf, tennis and sunshine. In recent years, he made his home in Colorado to be near his daughter Melissa, continuing to bring light and humor wherever he went.
Greenie built a successful medical supply business. He loved talking with his customers, sharing stories, trading jokes, and forming connections that often lasted for decades.
A unendingly generous man, who would give anyone the shirt off his back, loved adventure, Greenie spent his life skiing, traveling, golfing, playing tennis, and especially being on the water. His heart belonged to the Chesapeake Bay, where he kept a beloved summer home that served as a gathering place for family, friends, and countless memories. He was happiest riding his waverunner, cruising on his boat, and soaking in the joy of a day on the water. His friendships, some spanning more than 70 years, were among his proudest treasures.
Greenie had a well-known mischievous streak and a sense of humor that could brighten even the dullest moment. He was always ready with a joke or a playful comment. His legendary mooning episodes reminded everyone around him not to take life too seriously. Beneath the humor was a deeply loving man who passed on to his children a sense of spontaneity, a love of life, and a belief in staying positive no matter what comes their way.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Jeri; his daughters, Lauren and Melissa; his grandchildren Sarah, Josh, Micah, Eliza, Zoe, Jilly, and Gabe; and his great-grandson Shiloh. He is preceded in death by his beloved son, David.
