Betty J. Hoye died on March 18, 2026, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette at the age of 80 after a short illness. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on September 2, 1945, to Marion and W. R. Johnson and grew up in that city with her sister, Cheryl. Betty attended Ohio State University and had her two sons, Woody and David in Cincinnati. The family moved to Michigan where Betty earned her B.A. at Michigan State University and became a CPA. In 1985 Betty left Michigan for Colorado. In Boulder, Betty became active in the Boulder business community and owned several businesses. At a Boulder Chamber of Commerce leadership training course in 1991, she met and soon married her husband John F. Truhlar. Betty and John loved to travel and during their thirty years of marriage they hiked and biked and sailed over much of the world. A lifelong Democrat, Betty's life was one of public service. She was active for years with the Boulder Housing Partners Foundation, Meals on Wheels, and the Fraiser Community Board. She was also a tireless walker and you could see her walking her Labradoodle most days on the Centennial Trail and the South Boulder Creek Path. She will be lovingly missed by all who knew her. Betty is survived by her husband John, her sons Woody Hoye, of Hood River, Oregon, David Hoye of Ashland, Oregon, her granddaughter Bella Hoye of La Pine, Oregon, and her sister Cheryl (Ron) Smith of Jacksonville, Florida. Contributions may be made in Betty's honor to the Boulder Housing Partners Foundation, 4800 North Broadway, Boulder, CO, 80304.
