Carol K. Moremen, 95 years, of Boulder passed away peacefully on 12/17/2020, at Frasier Meadows Health Care Center.
Carol was born to Albert and Lyla Grandy Kelley, January 21, 1925, in San Marino, California. She spent her childhood in the South Pasadena area where she attended elementary and secondary schools. As a child she loved music and enjoyed the violin, piano, harmonica and accordion. Carol loved the outdoors; sports, sailing and camping were highlights of her childhood. She received her BA in Science from Pomona College and a MA in Educational Administration from Monmouth University in New Jersey. Carol became a middle school science teacher and completed her career after several years as a high school administrator in Middletown Township, N.J.
She married Lee J. Moremen in 1946, at the conclusion of World War II where he had served as a US Air Force pilot. They lived together raising a family on the west coast in Washington State, Oregon, and Southern California, before relocating to New Jersey in 1962. Carol is survived by their four children: Robin Moremen, of Albany, OR; Holly Hultgren, of Boulder, CO; Eileen Moremen, of Roswell, GA; Kelley Moremen, of Athens, GA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband in 1976.
Following a career in teaching and administration in secondary schools in New Jersey, Carol retired to Boulder in 1991. She delighted in her mountain home in Pine Brook Hills for many years, followed by a brief residence in Gunbarrel, before moving to Frasier Meadows in 2016.
Carol enjoyed travel and photography in retirement. In addition to many visits with family and friends across the United States, she participated in photography trips with Cloud Ridge Naturalists; educational trips with Elderhostel and Earthwatch; and sightseeing trips to Ireland, Nepal, Norway, Patagonia, South Africa, and Lake Baikal in Russia. In addition, she was active in the Pine Brook Hills Association and Zonta Foothills Club of Boulder County. Carol’s love of outdoor adventure and travel, care for her friends and family, and her resilient and independent spirit were an inspiration to all who knew her.
A celebration of Carol’s life will be held in summer of 2021.
