Donald Jordan

April 26, 1937 — October 14, 2021

Donald Gilbert Jordan of Longmont, Colorado passed away on October 14, 2021. Don moved to Colorado from Texas in 1962 with his wife, Pat and daughter, Jan. Soon after his second daughter, Julia was born. He worked for IBM and Lexmark until his retirement in 2002. Don had a passion for adventure that started at a young age when he and Pat hitchhiked their way across Europe. His passion continued when Pat and their two daughters biked their way around Hawaii. His love for adventure only continued to grow as the years went by.

He was a determined and driven man and was always pursuing his next big challenge. Among his accomplishments were climbing all the Colorado 14ers and achieving his private pilot license along with instrument, float plane, multi-engine, and acrobatic ratings. He flew many different types of aircraft including Cessna, Mooney, Lance, Cardinal, and Bonanza.

Don was also passionate about travel and scuba diving. He helped his 4 granddaughters complete their scuba certification training and enjoyed many dive trips with them to destinations like Mexico, Honduras, and Fiji. Don topped his dive training off by becoming nitrox certified and diving in the Galapagos.

Don was also an avid golfer for most of his life. In his retirement years he spent countless hours on the course at Fox Hill with many close friends.

Don’s real passion in his later years was bicycle riding. He and his wife, Pat took many trips to numerous world class bicycle touring destinations around the world. Often taking one or more of his granddaughters along with them and meeting his dear friends of the “Poland Group+” for the adventure.

If they were not globetrotting on their bikes, they were always training on the Peloton to make sure they were ready for the next challenge.

Don is survived by his wife Patricia (Pat) of 64 years, 2 daughters; Jan (Steve) King, Julia Jordan, four granddaughters and four great grandchildren: Lisa, (Kyle, Layla) Rovnak; Madison, (Ryan, Waylon, Cash) Nagel; Kelsey (Adam) Jorck; Shelby (Steven, Sutton) Shaffroth, and Sister Nancy (David) Morrison.

Don loved to write and provide wisdom in the form of quotes. He would want you to know;

“Maybe, deep down, cyclists know that hills, and the temporary pain and struggle they involve, are a fantastic metaphor for life. It’s s*** when you’re struggling, but the pain will end. It always does. There’s always a summit you’ve just got to keep going.” ― Mike Carter

"The bridge will only take you halfway there, to those mysterious lands you long to see. Through gypsy camps and swirling Arab fairs and moonlit woods where unicorns run free. So come and walk awhile with me and share the twisting trails and wondrous worlds I've known. But this bridge will only take you halfway there. The last few steps you have to take alone" ― Shel Silverstein

“Life's journey is not to arrive safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy S***.... what a ride!" ― Hunter Thompson

Don will always be loved and missed by everyone.
