Jack R. Lund

Jack Richard Lund, 73, of Boulder, Colorado passed away on January, 29, 2026, after succumbing to Alzheimer's. We were blessed that he spent all but his last 10 days at home.

Jack was beloved by family and friends whose steady sense of humor made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. His well-known mottos were "You have to bring the fun with you" along with "You can never have too much fun" and he definitely lived by those. His smile would light up the room. Even as an adult, he retained his devious nature that started with his younger brothers and continued with his grandchildren. Both Jack and the oldest grandchild at age 2, were put on time out by Joanne. Until his last year, he would frequently hide and scare Joanne. Jack carried on with his grandmother's and mother's tradition of April Fool's jokes.

He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan the eldest son of Russell and Mary Lee (nee Hawthorne) Lund.

Born and raised with strong Midwestern roots living most of his early years in Rock Island, Illinois. He graduated from Rock Island High School Class of 1971 where he was an outstanding pitcher on the baseball team. Jack was also a proud 1977 graduate of Augustana College in Rock Island. He and Joanne Egges moved to Boulder, Colorado at the end of 1979. Jack carried a lifelong love for adventures which included his first backpacking/hitch-hiking trip (5 months long) in Europe, backpacking the Colorado trails, fly fishing, and bird hunting. There were few sports that he didn't like, with baseball holding a special place in his heart. Starting in high school, he coached baseball from grade school through high school levels. Lunch for him was a workout frequently playing squash. He continued to shoot baskets even in his last month. Music whether a concert or playing music at home was also key to his life of "fun". He even wired all rooms in their house in the dead of winter before the builder put up drywall.

Jack spent his professional career at Ball Aerospace in supply chain. In other words, he bought trinkets for space with tax money. Over his 30 years with Ball, he worked many programs including buying the optics for the James Webb Space Telescope, many trinkets for the Deep Impact and Hubble Space Telescope. He was a force to be reckoned with and was much feared for his tenacious negotiation skills with vendors and Ball engineers.

We are grateful for all the support and caregiving from family, friends, caregivers, and University of Colorado Anschutz Medical School especially Dr. Samantha Holden who cared for him most of his 13 years with Alzheimer's.

Jack is survived by his spouse, Joanne Egges; children Amy/Amelia (Chris Beasley) and Jake/Jacob (Zaira Balmaceda) Lund; grandsons Josiah, Silas, Issac, and Lincoln; brother Tom (Amy), extended family, and friends who will forever cherish his wisdom, laughter, and the countless memories shared across the years. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dave. His presence will be deeply missed, but the love and fun he gave endures.

A celebration of Jack's life will be held on June 27, 1-4 at Ironwood Bar and Grille, Boulder.
