James Allen Heinze

JAMES ALLEN HEINZE - November 30,1937 - September 7, 2026

Our loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, James "Jim" Heinze, entered into

eternal rest on September 7, 2026, at the age of 88.

Jim, the youngest of five children, was born on November 30, 1937, to Alfred and Edith

Heinze in Quincy, IL. He attended Quincy University, where he met the love of his life,

Judith "Judy" Perko to whom he was married for 64 years. After graduating with a

degree in Engineering Management, he entered Officer Candidate School in the Naval

Reserve for three years. He began his career in sales with Gardner-Denver in Quincy,

IL. He then went on to build a distinguished thirty-year career in the telecommunications

industry working with Illinois Bell, AT&T, Mountain Bell, US West and Qwest. He was

well-respected given his strong work ethic, leadership skills and ability to mentor and

advance others. His career growth moved the family from Illinois to New Jersey and

eventually to Boulder, CO where he resided until 2013. While living in Boulder, Jim was

an active member of the Elks Club, the Optimist Club and Sacred Heart of Jesus

Church. He could be found on the handball courts at the YMCA on a weekly basis and

frequented YMCA camps with his daughters in Indian Princesses and with extended

family for multiple reunions. Jim fell in love with the great outdoors in Colorado and

enjoyed skiing, hiking, biking and camping, but NOT fishing... just ask his friends. He

and Judy were avid supporters of the arts and loved to travel. Jim was instrumental in

planning multiple pilgrimages and took joy in discovering new places to visit.

Jim took early retirement in 1993 to focus on the good things in life, including

volunteering, travel and grandparenting. Jim took on the role of "traveling spouse"

during Judy's year-long assignment of teaching in Australia where his main job was to

plan and pack up for adventures every weekend as they toured much of the continent.

Back in the states, he was able to share his time and talents with many volunteer

organizations including Youth at Work, Mother House, Boulder Community Hospital,

Sister Carmen Community Center, assisting seniors with the installation of Lifeline

systems, and acting as a Bell System Retiree Voice. He also exercised his extreme

talents as a handyman by building a duplex in Frisco with an equally ambitious friend.

Jim and Judy moved to Lafayette in 2013 where they were quick to make new friends

and establish new roots in their neighborhood and at Immaculate Conception Church.

They also spent a few weeks a year in Sun City, AZ where they renovated a home and

continued their social and recreational activities. The greatest joys of Jim's life were his

wife, his three daughters, their husbands and his seven grandchildren. He was Uncle

extraordinaire to his nephews and nieces and an amazing friend to so many. Jim was

known as a caring, fun-loving, creative and faithful man. Always one to mix up a great

cocktail, share some snacks and laughs and sit down to a rousing game of "99".

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister, three nephews

and one niece. He is survived by his wife, Judy; three daughters, Monique (Jeff)

Stemper, Greta (Blake) Nielsen and Stasia (Drew) Willock; and seven grandchildren:

Kendall and Claire Stemper, Gabrielle, Cole and Karina Nielsen and Kieran and Peter

Willock.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's honor will be greatly appreciated by either The

YMCA of Northern Colorado (https://www.ymcanoco.org/give) or Sister Carmen

Community Center (https://sistercarmen.org/give-help/give-funds/), two organizations

that are near and dear to Jim's heart. He had a larger-than-life presence that will be

sorely missed, but as a man of great faith, he is at peace in the presence of the Lord.

There will be a Rosary and Visitation on September 23, 2026, beginning at 4:00pm at

Greenwood & Myers Mortuary (2969 Baseline Road, Boulder). The funeral Mass will be

held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (715 Cabrini Drive, Lafayette) on

Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 11:00am.
