Julia Meyer Charles was born September 23, 1937, in Oak Park, IL to Alva and Helen (Bush) Meyer. Judy passed peacefully on Friday, July 31st, 2026 surrounded by family. She grew up in Arlington Heights, IL. "Judy" graduated from Arlington Heights Township High School in 1955 where she met her husband, Robert (Bob) Charles. Judy and Bob were married for 65 years. She attended the University of Colorado and graduated with a BS in Education. While at CU, she was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority (Beta Gamma). She taught elementary education in Broomfield, CO and in Tucson, AZ. Judy was an integral part of the family businesses in Boulder County. She was a member of the PEO Chapter in Boulder, where she held multiple offices. Judy served on many boards and volunteered her time with many organizations, including Boulder Country Club, Boulder Valley School District, and the Ronald McDonald House of Denver.
For many years, she enjoyed raising and riding horses. She was also a big CU fan and enjoyed cheering on the Buffs in both football and men's and women's basketball. She and Bob enjoyed playing golf and traveled extensively together.
She is survived by her husband, Bob, of Lafayette, CO, two sons, Robert (Bob) and Dianne Charles (III) of Marco Island, FL, Dale and Katie Charles of Longmont, CO, and one daughter, Janice Charles of Thornton, CO. Grandchildren include Robert (Rob) Charles IV (Carly Charles), Ryan Charles, Logan Hawkins (Jada Hawkins), Kaelin Hawkins, Camryn Hawkins and Trevor Charles Elser (Kayla Elser). She has two great-grandchildren, Xavier Hawkins and Fletcher Elser.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alva and Helen Meyer, and sister, Jean Meyer Martin.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1pm, Thursday, August 6th, at Grace Commons Church in Boulder, Colorado. In place of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Judy to the Hydrocephalus Association (https://give.hydroassoc.org/campaign/730672/donate) or the Ronald McDonald House of Denver, CO (https://rmhc-denver.org/make-a-gift/).
