Karin Morgan

February 18, 1954 — June 6, 2024

Karin Wyman Morgan passed away late Thursday evening, June 6th in Boulder’s

Community Health Hospital surrounded by her three children and husband of 44

years after a long and arduous battle with breast cancer that she endured with

tremendous courage and grace until her very last day. A Boulder resident for 50

years, Karin was a deeply devoted and much beloved wife, mother, grandmother,

daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who sparkled with generosity and fierce courage,

particularly in the face of her diagnosis and long fight against cancer. She was 70

years old.

Karin Wyman was born in New York City in February of 1954. The youngest of three

children, she spent her childhood with her two brothers, Tim and Peter, and two

close cousins Fred and Carol – the five kids exploring the wild and wonderful world

of New York City. Her parents, Tom and Ilsabe would bring all three kids to their

home on the Eastern Shore of Maryland every weekend and every summer, where

Karin and her brothers learned the virtues of farm life– riding horses, tending to

sheep, deer, and hounds, and swimming and crab fishing in the Chesapeake Bay. It

was there where Karin developed her lifelong passion for the outdoors, the

preservation and protection of our green and open spaces, and for all animals– wild

and domestic.

When she was 17, Karin left the East Coast to attend the University of Colorado in

Boulder, where she earned a dual degree in Italian and Psychology. She

subsequently earned her law degree from the University of Denver, graduating

second in her class. While in Boulder, she met Jeffrey Morgan and they married in

August 1979 at her family’s Maryland estate and soon after built their home on Lee

Hill Drive where they raised their three children, and expanded and enriched the

property into a wonderful Boulder paradise where Karin’s five grandchildren still

spend many hours every week.

Karin was devastated to lose her eldest brother Peter in the summer of 1994 and

then her father, Tom in 2020– months after the start of the COVID pandemic and her

first diagnosis of cancer. Karin loved to travel, to hike and explore the open spaces

of Colorado or wherever she found herself, and to immerse herself in the cuisines,

cultures, and languages of the world. A practicing lawyer for many years, she was a

masterful logician with an extraordinary eye for detail. This was also useful for her

passion for architecture and design, and she was the driving force behind the

construction, design, and renovation of over a dozen homes belonging to her and

her family. She especially loved her animals, and cared deeply for many dogs and

cats that shared her home and her heart over many decades.

Karin and Jeff believed strongly in philanthropy and participating in the community.

They both served on various community boards, including the Humane Society of

Boulder, Community Food Share and Boulder Community Health.

Karin is survived by her adoring husband Jeff and dutiful Norwich Terrier Dooley, her

son Elliott and his wife Karensa and their two girls Isabel and Sloan, her daughter

Kristen Redd and her husband Damon and their three children Madeline, Wynter

and Wylie and her youngest son Tyler– all of whom live in Boulder. She is survived

also by her older brother Tim, her dear cousins Fred and Carol and their beautiful

families, her mother Ilsabe, and countless neighbors, friends, nieces and nephews

whose lives she touched in such significant ways. Karin requested that donations in

her memory should be made to Boulder Community Health’s Red Lipstick Fund

supporting cancer patients and their families in need.
