Lori Monthei was a bright, competent and caring person who was loved by many. She was an amazing and successful businesswoman. On September 16, 2024 she slipped from this world at home encircled by love.
Born in Detroit, MI to Chester and Helen Jaworski, Lori was the youngest of their three daughters.
Lori received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, and a Master of Social Work, and worked at the University of Michigan Hospital. Lori married Dennis Monthei. They divorced several years later. Lori moved to Chicago where she developed her career and established an active life. She was Assistant Dean of Students at Loyola University, and held several positions at the First National Bank of Chicago, including Assistant Vice President for Client Services. She also earned a Masters in Management from Northwestern University. She went on to become Director of Administration for Mayer Brown, a prestigious multi-national law firm. Lori rose to levels of accomplishment in an era when it was not easy for women to do so. She generously mentored several young women throughout their careers.
Lori later moved to Boulder where she enjoyed close times with family. She became a talented jewelry artist, an activity she embraced to deal with her chronic pain. She gifted family, friends and several charities with her beautiful designs.
Lori was part a loving family, including her sister and lifelong friend, Marcia Lattanzi Licht. Her oldest sister, Christine Rejniak (Larry) died in March. Lori has a beloved nephew and nieces who were at her side in the weeks before her passing: Paula Rejniak Kipke (Daryl), Laura Rejniak, Pamela Rejniak Glover (Ken) and Steven Lattanzi (Beth Reisman). Lori lived through the losses of her parents, her cherished niece Ellen Lattanzi, and her brothers-in-law Mike Licht and Larry Rejniak.
Lori's love was a foundational part of the lives of her family and friends. She offered a hand to hold, and her loved ones felt blessed to know her.
Deep thanks go to Lori's faithful Homewatch CareGivers. Heartfelt gratitude and donations in Lori's memory to TRU Hospice who compassionately and expertly helped care for Lori in her final weeks of dealing with recurrent cancer.
A Celebration of Lori's Life will be held Sunday, October 20, 2024, 11 am at the ETown Café, 1535 Spruce St.
