Marie G. Kindgren

After gracing the world for 100 years with her wonderful personality, enduring kindness and determination, Marie passed away on June 30th ,2025 at the Frasier Retirement Community in Boulder Colorado.

Born in Chicago April 19th, 1925 to Ludwig and Terese Gilch, who had emigrated from Germany in 1915 , Marie and her sister Marge grew up in a German speaking community, English became her second language when she started school. Marie's love of the German language never left as she found many to converse with keeping her language skills honed. In high school she chose to learn to play the Oboe, one of the more difficult instruments in the orchestra. She also mastered typing and shorthand which prepared her for future secretarial and office administration positions.

She met Bruce Kindgren while dancing at the German Club in Chicago, they married in 1952, and moved to Ames Iowa where they started their family and the first two children, Karl and Fred were born. A few years later a third son, James, and daughter Kathryn, were born in Erie Pennsylvania. In 1959 the family migrated west, from what Marie referred to as "Dreary Erie " to Boulder where she then resided for the next 66 years.

While raising a family of four children, Marie obtained her Scientific Secretary Certification and worked as a technical typist in the Electrical Engineering department at the University of Colorado for 26 years. In the evenings she took on additional work of typing technical thesis papers for Ph.D. students. She retired from the university in 1991 and enjoyed many years of traveling, spending time with her grandchildren, enjoying classical music and making friends at every opportunity.

Active and energetic, Marie was always one to participate in a wide variety of activities well into her 90's, including being a member of the Golden West Senior Center, Golden Girlz cheerleading squad, concerts, walking the Bolder Boulder, and lunch with friends at her favorite spot, the Dark Horse.

Marie is survived by her four children Karl, Fred (Nancy), James (Valerie) and Kathyrn. Four grandchildren, James, Michael, Scott, and Kelly and eight great- grandchildren. Bruce, her husband for 60 years preceded her death in 2012.
