Marie Walsh, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and longtime member of the Boulder community, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Boulder, Colorado, on August 21, 2026. She was 84 years old.

Marie was born on January 11, 1942, in Black Creek, Wisconsin, one of seven children. From a young age, Marie loved participating in athletics, music, and drama, passions that would remain with her throughout her life.

She attended the University of Wisconsin, where she met the love of her life and future husband, Frank Walsh. Following graduation and some time as an elementary school teacher, Marie and Frank made their home in Boulder where they raised their three children: Mike, Rob, and Kerry.

Together, they built a life centered around family, friendship, an appreciation for simple joys, and plenty of laughter.

Marie loved Boulder and its community. For almost a decade, she served others as meal coordinator at the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless. This work reflected who she was: caring, compassionate, and always looking to help those in need.

Marie pursued many hobbies with enthusiasm and creativity. Over the years she enjoyed macramé, stained glass, artwork, and pressing flowers. She also loved trying new recipes and was a natural cook, once earning a top finish in a Boulder cooking contest.

Marie especially treasured the week she spent each summer at Rasmussen Cottages in Wisconsin with her extended family. Those vacations were filled with themed dinners, talent shows, cousin olympics, barrels of popcorn, campfire songs and above all, the simple joy of being together.

Marie was proud of her three children and found tremendous joy in her seven grandchildren. She loved watching them participate in sports, academics, student government and whatever else captured their interests. Perhaps her favorite family tradition was organizing "next generation" talent shows during family vacations, imploring the cousins to bring more "drrrrraaaammmmaaaa," a delightful reminder of the young girl from Black Creek.

Marie approached life with infectious enthusiasm and an extraordinary sense of gratitude. She was endlessly positive, quick to laugh, and always found the good in people and the world around her.

Those who knew Marie will remember her not simply for what she did, but for how she made people feel.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. In lieu of gifts, those wishing to honor Marie's memory may make a donation to the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless (allroadsboco.org) or volunteer at a local food bank or soup kitchen, carrying forward the spirit of kindness and service that meant so much to her.
