Marion Eleanor Sauer, born an only child to Edith Mentch Brindle and Frank William Brindle on November 23, 1936 in Paterson, NJ, passed away peacefully at her home in Boulder, CO on July 29, 2024. She lived 87 good years before succumbing to pancreatic cancer.
Marion's early years were spent in Jenkintown, PA, and Plainsboro, NJ, where she attended elementary school. She continued her education at Princeton High School (NJ) and completed her senior year at St. Pete High School in Florida. Following her passion for nursing, Marion attended the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA, where she cultivated her dedication to caregiving.
After marrying the love of her life, Herbert Sauer, in 1957, Marion worked as an Operating Room Nurse at the University of Iowa Hospitals. Her career was marked by dedication and compassion, touching many lives with her skill and kindness.
In 1962, Marion and Herb moved to Boulder, Colorado, a decision that proved to be one of their best. Nestled at the base of the Rocky Mountains, Boulder became their cherished home, a place where they raised their family and created lasting memories. Marion found great joy in their family house, among her collected treasures, the multitude of animal visitors in the yard, view of the front range of the Rockies, her garden, and friendly neighbors. Marion cherished the visit of her many friends in this home base. She was able to stay to the end in this comfort.
Marion's life was richly filled with a sense of purpose. She continued her love of the medical field and worked as a Patient Service Coordinator at the University of Colorado Wardenburg Student Health Center. Her volunteer work brought her further satisfaction. She devoted over 40 years to the Bonfils Blood Drives (Department of Commerce NOAA/NIST) and 25 years to Children's Hospital Colorado, embodying a spirit of selflessness and community service. She also served as an Election Day Judge for many years and was a Room Mother, on the Parent Council, and elected to the Citizens Advisory Council for her children's Boulder-based schools.
Marion's family was her greatest pride and joy. She is survived by her four beloved children, Susan (Mike), David (Jill), Steven (Leslie), and Kevin (Melina), and her four cherished grandchildren: Zoë, Ethan, Davis, and Lydia. Each of them enriched her life in immeasurable ways, providing her with endless love and happiness. Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Herb.
An avid traveler, Marion explored the world, visiting a dozen countries and embracing the beauty of different cultures and landscapes. She delighted in boating, hiking, photography, and the tranquility of the mountains, finding solace and inspiration in nature.
In her final farewell letter, Marion shared her reflections and gratitude, expressing her love for her family and friends. "Each year I look forward to writing my holiday letter, gathering thoughts and photos taken throughout the year. This year it will be Christmas in July. Herb and I had four children, and now four grandchildren, and I am so very proud of each of them. Indeed, my greatest joy has been family, all of whom have thoroughly enriched my life."
Marion's life was indeed wonderful, filled with meaningful work, adventurous travels, and deep connections. She found joy in her children's and grandchildren's achievements, in the simple beauty of a bumblebee gathering pollen, and in the companionship of dear friends who laughed and cried with her.
Marion's legacy is one of love, kindness, and resilience. She wished for peace and tranquility for all, and her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her. As we bid farewell, we honor Marion's remarkable life and the indelible mark she left on our hearts.
Rest in peace, Marion. Your spirit will forever guide us and your love will always be with us.
