Moira Buchan Buhse died on June 19, 2025 in Colorado at the age of 89. She was born in 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri to parents Ruth and Sandy Buchan. She attended Clayton High School before transferring to the new Ladue High School where she was a member of their first graduating class. She spent her childhood summers in the Rocky Mountains where her parents had built a rustic cabin.
She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English from Grinnell College and obtained a master’s in library science from Rosary College (now Dominican University). She worked as a reference librarian at Downers Grove Public Library for many years before becoming head librarian at Westmont Public Library where she spearheaded the construction of a new library building.
She had a deep love for the Rocky Mountains and greatly enjoyed hiking in the Indian Peaks Wilderness and spending time with her kids and grandkids at the family cabin. She was also an avid hand-quilter, creating over 50 full size quilts that have been distributed amongst family and friends. She took great pride in her garden and was a longtime member and volunteer at the Morton Arboretum.
She lived in Downers Grove for over 50 years with Howard, her husband of 66 years, before moving to Bouder, Colorado after his death in 2023. She is survived by her son, Andrew Buhse, daughters, Lucinda (Cindy) Buhse and Rachael Brady, five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. No services are planned at this time.
