Rick (Richard) Eric Frankel, 55, of Boulder, CO, passed away on June 7, 2026, after an almost 2 year battle with glioblastoma.
Rick was born on January 25, 1971, in Cleveland, OH, to Morton and Janet Frankel. After his mother's passing, his father married Carol Shenkan Shensa, adding her children, Janet and Robert, to the family. Rick was the youngest of six siblings - Debbie Feiner (m. Michael Feiner), Steven Frankel (m. Debbie Rudoy), Mitchell Frankel (m. Susan Smith Frankel), Janet DeBevoise (m. Charles DeBevoise), and Robert Shensa Frankel. Over the years, the Frankel clan has expanded through multiple generations, all of whom Rick cherished deeply. Rick met his wife Alex (Alexandra) Teller in 2000, and they later married in June 2004 in Boulder, CO. Their son Lake was born in September 2007, completing their family.
Rick went to boarding school at St. Andrew's in Barrington, Rhode Island. He spent a year at Syracuse University, then returned to Providence at Johnson & Wales University. Rick made lifelong friends everywhere he went.
Throughout his life, Rick was known for his adventurous spirit, love of music, and deep appreciation for exploring the world. He found joy in traveling in his van, discovering new places, and sharing life's adventures with his family and dogs, who were constant companions on many of his journeys.
Rick embraced experiences wholeheartedly. He was happiest while in nature, on the road enjoying the freedom of travel and spending time with his family and friends.
He will be remembered for his independent spirit, kind heart, and enduring love for family, music, travel, and his dogs. He will live on through the love he shared, the adventures he inspired, and the many lives he touched along the way. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations can be made to www.therewithcare.org and www.braintumor.org and glioblastomafoundation.org. All of which were meaningful to Rick.
