Robert Evans Woods, Jr.

October 15, 1947 - June 29, 2025

Robert E. Woods, Jr. died peacefully on June 29, 2025, surrounded by family. The cause of death was aspiration pneumonia. He had recently been re-diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy after having been originally diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2018. Bob worked indefatigably to keep his symptoms at bay, and indeed always hoped to get back on the golf course. He remained incredibly positive throughout his ordeal, never complaining about his condition. His sense of humor remained firmly intact.

Bob was born in Sapporo, Japan to Geraldine and Robert Woods, Sr., who was stationed there with the Army. Bob's family eventually settled in Darien, CT and he graduated from Darien High School in 1965. He returned to Darien with his first wife, Saralyn, to raise their family. After Saralyn passed away, Bob married his wife Mary in 2009 and moved to Rowayton, CT. They moved to Colorado in 2022, where he was a much-loved resident of The Academy at Mapleton Hill in Boulder, CO.

Bob graduated from Wesleyan University, where he played varsity lacrosse and football. He also enjoyed basketball and was President of the DKE fraternity. He and Saralyn married upon his graduation in 1970. He received an MBA from Wharton and joined Citibank in New York City in1972, where he spent the next 25 years of his career. His time at Citi included building and running its Global Leveraged Finance Debt Distribution, Sales and Trading business and heading up Real Estate Investment Banking. He and Saralyn also spent three years in Paris while he was with Citi. In 1997, Bob joined Society Generale Bank as Head of Syndicate and Debt Capital Markets. He retired from banking in 2007 and became a consultant for GarMark Partners for three years.

Bob and Mary knew each other professionally when they both worked at Citibank. They re-met in 2009 and married soon thereafter. After Mary retired in 2012, they were free to travel, and they did. They greatly enjoyed extensive excursions around the globe, getting to know local people and cultures, absorbing natural and cultural wonders, and relishing local cuisines. Bob always remained passionate about golf, tennis and cars. He and his golf partners won several tournaments; his tennis group (which included his father) played together for about 30 years; and he modified his beloved Porsche to race with his buddies at Lime Rock and Watkins Glen. His activities usually resulted in terrific, fun stories with lots of laughs. Bob had a well-deserved reputation as being "Mr. Gadget," and always had to have the latest technology for everything from sports equipment to audio systems. He later developed a keen interest in wine and joined the Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin. He was a long-time member of the Wee Burn Country Club and Tokeneke Club in Darien, and a member of the Edgartown Yacht Club and Edgartown Golf Club on Martha's Vineyard.

Bob will always be appreciated for his kindness, humor, intelligence, curiosity and love for his family and friends. He was a wonderful husband and fantastic father and grandfather for both his and Mary's children and grandchildren.

Bob leaves behind his wife, Mary, his daughter, Avery Woods (Erik Schuchmann), his son, Baker Woods (Nicole), his stepsons, Spencer Corkran and Dillon Corkran (Stephanie) and five grandchildren, Dexter and Milo Schuchmann, Austin and Garrett Woods, and Lainey Corkran. He is also survived by his two brothers, Jerry Woods (Kate) and Chris Woods (Debbie) and his nieces and nephew, Ashley Hollister (Clinton), Robert Woods and Morgan Huffard (Adrian).

There will also be a celebration of life held in Boulder, CO on Thursday, July 17 at 3:00 p.m. at The Academy at Mapleton Hill for local friends and family.
