Rose "Rosie" Gilbert passed away after a short illness on May 11th, 2025, as her husband Jim, held her hand. She was surrounded by many family members she loved and who loved her dearly.
Rosie was born on April 21, 1940, in Steubenville, Ohio to Pasquale and Donata Polumbo DiCarlo. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in Steubenville in 1958. Rosie moved from Steubenville to Louisville, Colorado in 1963 and was a longtime resident of Louisville. She married the love of her life James Gilbert on June 1st, 1999, in Louisville, Colorado.
Over the years Rosie worked for US West, Storage Tek and the University of Colorado. She was a member, donation donor and volunteer for Buffs4Life, an Honorary Member of the CU Alumni "C" Club, member of the CU Buff Club, the Buffalo Belles, the Louisville Society of Italian Americans, and the Louisville Historical Museum.
Rosie was loved by her family, her Wednesday morning coffee group, her Taco Tuesday friends, her phone company and Storage Tek friends and all her friends from CU. She loved her pets, her family, her friends, and the CU Buffs.
Rosie was preceded in death by her parents Pasquale and Donata DiCarlo, her brother Gene DiCarlo and his wife Pal DiCarlo, her nephew Gene Allan DiCarlo, her mother-in-law Dorothy Gilbert, and her brother-in-law Jack Gilbert.
Rosie's survived by her husband James Gilbert, as well as his brothers, sisters, and their spouses; Nancy Novak, Will and Mary Jo Gilbert, Carmen and John Nibert, Charlie and Nancy Gilbert, and Cynthia and John Contino.
Rosie's nieces and nephews Paula Elrod, Karen DiCarlo, Dino and his wife Leslie DiCarlo, Annicia Blacketer and Brooke Want.
Rosie was blessed with many great nieces and great nephews, some of whom live locally. These include Breeann and Ronson Hagan, Bre and Dino DiCarlo Jr., Derek DiCarlo, Carter, Weston, and Emery Blacketer and Lucas Want.
Great-Great Nieces and Nephews Layla DiCarlo, Drake Hagan, Dayton, and Aria DiCarlo. While many out-of-town nieces and nephews are left unnamed, they are not unremembered.
Services for Rosie will be held on Tuesday, May 20th, 2025. Rosary at 9:30am, Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am at St. Louis Catholic Church, 901 Grant Avenue, Louisville, Colorado with inurnment to follow at Sacred Heart of Mary Cemetery, 6739 South Boulder Road, Boulder, Colorado.
A Celebration of Life reception for Rosie will be held at 1:30pm at the Louisville Recreation and Senior Center, 900 Via Appia Way, Louisville Colorado.
