Thomas Cestare

October 22, 1987 — June 20, 2025

Thomas Paine McNamee Cestare, of Lanikai, Hawai'i and Boulder, Colorado, passed away on June 20 in Boulder, Colorado. He was 37 years old. Tommy graduated from Punahou School in Hawai'i and then moved to Boulder to attend the University of Colorado. Tom took great joy in family, friends, cooking, music, hiking, and fishing. He is survived by his parents, Tom & Roberta, his sister Keeley, niece Frankie, brother-in-law Nick Gianoli, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. A celebration of life will take place August 10 in Lanikai, Hawai'i.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Tommy's name to Canyon Critters, an animal rescue in Golden, Colorado run by a close friend of the family. Tommy thought of its founder, Nico Novelli, as a brother. Canyon Critters rescues tortoises, snakes, lizards, caiman, and wolves, among other animals. In fact, Nico rescued Tom several times.

Invictus

by William Ernest Henley

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate,

I am the captain of my soul.
